US MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT ON POSTPONING THE OCT 26TH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION THAT HAS LET JUBILEE IN SHOCK
The United States has spoken on the idea of postponing the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October 26.
Speaking during a press briefing by foreign envoys, US Ambassador Robert Godec on Monday stated that they had no problem with the presidential poll being pushed if the right channels are followed.
Godec stated that the envoys were interested in a credible process and not a quick fix but the decision squarely lies with the Supreme Court.
“We will have no objection to the extension of timelines if the courts granted that. We are interested in a credible process and not quick fixes,” stated Godec.
The envoys further added they were aware that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was facing many challenges but commended the poll body for taking the right steps to ensure the election is credible.
“IEBC should take seriously concerns raised by the chairman Wafula Chebukati and former commissioner Roselyn Akombe.
