The Judiciary has collected approximately Sh99 Million from the election petitions filed challenging the election of Governors, Senators, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who won in the August elections.
About Sh6.7 Million was directed to the judiciary’s bank account as costs of filing the petitions while Sh92.4 million was deposited as security for costs that will be incurred upon determination of the disputes.
According to guidelines gazetted by Chief Justice David Maraga, the Judiciary was charging Sh30,000 for each petition filed to challenge the election of a governor, senator, MP and County Woman Representatives and Sh15,000 for disputes on MCA elections.
