"The bags will cost us between Sh5 to Sh10 more (per bag) than what we use. We are subsidizing the cost for the benefit of the consumer," Kimani explained. 

Consumers will be allowed to walk into the supermarkets with their own bags or purchase other bags at the cost of Sh30 and Sh50. 

Environment Cabinet Secretary Judi Wakhungu gazetted the notice on plastic ban on February 28, 2017. 

The fine for those found in possession of the banned plastic bags has been set at Sh4 Million or a jail sentence of two years.
